On Saturday September 14, Reforming Indy Pilates Studio staff, clients and families came together for the 3rd year supporting Charity:Water and the 2nd annual WalkForWater event . The participants walked 10k from Upland Brewery to Flowing Well Park and back to help supply clean water to those in need around the world.
Private donors fund all of the Charities operating costs so 100% off what we raise goes straight to the field. They also provide photos and GPS coordinates of every project so we can see how our donations are being utilized.
A good time was had along the way. Teams of four were formed and added challenges were given by Event Leader, Riana Schneider, on the way back. Some of the challenges each team had to complete included: naming all of the Reforming Indy Staff Members, completing 40 burpees and a set of 100s while everyone else held a V-sit. However, most walkers would say the hardest challenge of all was carrying a 3 gallon jug of water on the way back, without setting it down. Women in developing countries carry a 5 gallon container up to 10 miles every day just to have any water at all for their families. Kristen Abbott got creative when it came to carrying her team’s water jug, using her baby carrier. Robbin Schneider chose to carry her team’s jug on her head, with the help of a Lululemon jacket for extra cushion. Ask any of the walkers and they will tell you, water is heavy!
Walk For Water concluded with a celebration including beer, food, fun and laughter. Team Tod, Tod Baker, Matt Rouge, John and Michelle Kerr, were the winners of the brainteaser challenge! They enjoyed an appetizer at Upland Brewery on behalf of Reforming Indy – and didn’t hesitate to share with the rest of the crew! Just goes to show the kind of thoughtful souls that are apart of the Reforming Indy Family.
If you were unable to make it to Walk For Water this year, there is still time to participate in our efforts. Our goal this year is to raise $3,500 for Charity:Water which would mean that through Reforming Indy, our friends, families and clients had donated enough money to supply an entire well project for a community of 250 people over the past 3 years!
If you want to help bring clean water to those in need, please visit http://my.charitywater.org/reformingindywalkforwater to donate between now and November.. Any contribution, big or small, can make a huge difference as every $20 provides 1 person with clean, easily accessible water for at least 20 years. You can learn more about why water here.

Although Joseph Pilates did not outline the 6 principles himself, two students of one of Joe’s lifelong students, Romana Kryzanowska, published the first modern book of Pilates and in it, broke the Pilates method into 6 principles that have become widely accepted. These 6 principles are Concentration, Control, Centering, Flow, Precision and Breathing.
Pilates is a methodology designed to strengthen the mind and body which in turn brings balance and longevity to our lives. This can be achieved by focusing on, and applying, the 6 principles of Pilates every time you perform a movement.
Each week, starting Monday July 1st , we will be focusing on a different principle to help you understand and better implement that principle into your practice. Our hope is that this exercise will help identify areas of potential weakness as well as elevate your overall understanding of Pilates and the tremendous power the method has to transform your life!
See you at the studio :>read more »
